Recognising KDU University College as a pioneering undertaking in education by a property developer in the past 35 years that has since been followed by others, The Edge Media Group presented KDU The Edge Malaysia Pioneer Development Award 2017, a prestige accolade for the credible and truly deserving winner. 

By clinching this awards, which certainly glamorised its mother company – Paramount Corporation Bhd., a long-standing investment holding company in property development and education services, KDU not only recognised for its emergence as a pioneer in the market but also its relevancy and positive contribution to the growth of its surrounding areas.  

This honorary moment was witnessed by 400 Malaysia’s leading property developers and industry experts, who gathered for property excellence awards-giving gala dinner on 30 October 2017, at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Guest of honour of the night was Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting, the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China. 

During the ceremony, KDU was represented by Datin Teh Geok Lian, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Paramount Education, in receiving this award from the organiser – Mr Ho Kay Tat, The Edge Media Group publisher and group CEO; Ms Au Foong Yee, EdgeProp.my Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief; as well as Ms Rosalynn Poh, City and Country Editor. 

The joyous moment was shared by Paramount and KDU invitees to this event - Mr Jeffrey Chew Sun Teong, Group CEO of Paramount Corp Bhd; Prof. Dr. Hiew Pang Leang, Vice Chancellor; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hon Wei Min, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); Mr. Shanker A/L Sathivellu, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration); and Mr Sheikh Fahmy bin Sheikh Mohamed, Chief Marketing Officer of KDU University College. 

Elaborating on how this award meant for KDU and its prospects, Prof. Dr. Hiew Pang Leang the VC commented, “KDU is now part of a large education provider group that is offering education related services ranging from pre-school, kindergarten, thru to tertiary education, adult education, professional training and certification. We are offering Malaysians a true sense of continual learning throughout our lives, a try ‘Pre-K to Grey’ education provider in Malaysia.”

Upon this recognition, Prof. Dr. Hiew mentioned, the management is anticipating for KDU to be seen as nurturing a new generation of business savvy and technology-driven entrepreneurs that are able to positively change their own lives and the lives around them. “We also wanted KDU to also be known for promoting voluntarism and CSR activities as part of holistic education and to enrich communities around us,” he added. 

On top this achievement, Paramount Property Development Sdn. Bhd., a sister company of KDU, was awarded The Edge Malaysia – PEPS Value Creation Excellence Award 2017 on this same occasion, which made it a double happiness under one roof. 

Started in the year 2003, The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards commenced with The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers Awards. In these 15 years, it has expanded to comprise eight awards in total. During his opening speech earlier on, Mr Ho Kay Tat mentioned the reason why these awards are well regarded and coveted, is simply because the vigorous judging process that ensures awards are truly based on merit.
