Industry Talk By Orionplex: The Importance Of Industrial Based Project For KDU Graduates

KDU University College welcomed the co-founder of Orionplex Sdn. Bhd. - Mr Gary Lee and Mr Kelvin on the 28th of February to conduct a talk on the expectations of engineering and software industry had on fresh graduates. The talk was attended by 20 students, from School of Engineering and School of Computing and Creative Media.
Founded for more than 10 years, Orionplex is a provider for solutions, training and advice on computer software and hardware based in Penang Island, Malaysia.

In these years, founders saw that despite there are a lot of quality students graduating from engineering and I.T courses, there is a gap between final year projects and the industry. Both Mr Gary and Mr Kelvin wished to close in order to shorten the training period after the students graduated and started working.

During his talk, Mr Gary shared his observation of the industry and how final year students can take the opportunity of their final year project to pursue areas of interest. He explained the interconnectedness of the student’s work on their final year project can increase their chances of employability. And by collaborating with different companies, the students will also be able to get a feel of the newest technology in the field.

Mr Gary demonstrated how interviews are like in the engineering and I.T industry during the talk. He also taught tips and techniques on how to answer different questions related to electronic engineering, mechatronic engineering, programming and information technology during job interviews.

The students gained a lot of industry knowledge that is relevant to the industry. At the end of the talk, the students were eager to learn more about how they can fast track their career through carefully planning their final year project and internship.
