As a key player in the local private education industry and well established for more than 30 years, KDU University College continues its noble effort in shaping up the young talents and extending financial assistance to Malaysian students in meeting the cost of higher education.

Believing that the desire in pursuing higher education shouldn’t be hindered by financial obstacles in any form, KDU University College has been offering students with numerous types of scholarships internally. Externally, it has been many years partnering with The Star Education Fund, which was set up by Malaysian largest English newspaper, in providing financial assistance to the deserving students.

For 2018, KDU University College is pledging 10 scholarships with the total amount of RM450, 000, with aims to bailout award-deserving students by giving them a chance in pursuing their desirable higher education.

With great honour and privilege, the pledge was witnessed by Yang Berbahagia Datin Paduka Ir Dr Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir, Director General of Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, during the official opening ceremony of The Star Education Fair 2018, held January 6 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

KDU’s scholarship pledge for The Star Education Fund was presented by Mr Sheikh Fahmy bin Sheikh Mohamed, Chief Marketing Officer of KDU University College. Also presented was The Star Media Group Berhad Chief Operating Officer Datuk Calvin Kan and iStar Events Sdn. Bhd. Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Adriana Law.

With the utmost benefit of bond-free, the scholarship offers by The Star Education Fund cover a wide range of fields and disciplines, from entry-level courses to undergraduate education and professional studies to vocational training.

As one of the 31 partners-in-education of The Star, KDU’s contribution had made up The Star Education Fund with 295 scholarships worth nearly RM16.1 million for grabs at the education fair this year. Since 1994, there were 281 scholarships offered by 30 institutions under the Star Education Fund, which has benefited 3,758 recipients with a total scholarship value of RM117.9mil.

Held on January 6 and 7 at Halls 1 to 5 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, The Star Education Fair 2018 included a series of education and career talks and an array of study options and programmes from foreign and local institutions. Participated in this fair, KDU University College had set up an exhibition booth at the venue that offers counselling for potential students. On top of that, Dr Jenny Wong Sook Khuan, KDU’s School of Business & Social Sciences and School of Pre-U Studies’ Head, was one of the speakers in giving education and career talk.

“The 10 scholarships that we have pledged are based on full tuition fees. Candidates could apply by sending their application directly to The Star Education Fund. Upon closing of the application, there will be an interview session jointly conducted by KDU and The Star in selecting the right candidates. Only successful candidates will be awarded this scholarship.” Explained Mr Sheikh Fahmy on the application process.
