True to its education charter of creating a community where learning, teaching and research are encouraged, enabled and enjoyed, KDU awarded a scholarship to a bright and promising teenager from the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).
 
The scholarship, KDU Education Sponsorship, the first of its kind coming from the private university entitle its recipient 50% off their tuition fees during their studies in KDU Utropolis Glenmarie. The recipient, Hafiz Izzuddin Zainudin, is currently enrolled in Diploma in Communication and Media Studies.
 
Hafiz’s scholarship was presented to him by KDU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Hiew Pang Leang during a simple luncheon ceremony on Monday afternoon. The luncheon was also attended by Hafiz’s father Zainuddin Tahir, KDU Chief of Marketing Officer Sheikh Fahmy Sheikh Mohamed, NASOM chairman Feilina Feisol and NASOM Chief Executive Officer Razin Murat.
 
Commenting on the sponsorship, Feilina said it was very enlightening and heartening to have an international acclaimed private institution to award a scholarship to Hafiz.
 
“Even though there are a lot of true potential to realise in any autism children, many of them do not have such opportunity like Hafiz so it is definitely a good way forward for NASOM and the autism community.
 
“In fact, Hafiz has become like an idol to all the other autism children at Nasom and their parents as his story has generated much awareness to everyone that there is still academic pathway for the autism people,” Feilina said after the ceremony.
 
She hoped that there will be one autism children at each of KDU campus as the private institution has agreed to sponsor two autism children every semester.
 
Asked if Hafiz have any issue making new friends or catching up with his studies, Feilina said so far he does not encounter any problem thanks to the care and attention given to him by KDU education counsellor.
 
On why Hafiz decides to enrolled in Diploma in Communication and Media Studies, Hafiz said it’s because he have strong enthusiasm and interest in broadcasting as he gets to learn something new every day from how they present to how the broadcasting industry works.
 
Hafiz said he aspire to be a news caster for TV3 or RTM when he graduates.
 
Meanwhile, the luncheon also saw Sheikh Fahmy presenting four students their Community Principal Scholarship in the presence of their proud parents.
 
Similar like Hafiz, the scholarship also entitles the four 50% off their tuition fees for their studies in KDU. The four who received the scholarship were Aina Mardiana Hazamuddin, Mardinah Farhanah Razali, Arina Adam Litak Adam and Mysarah Aiyad Anuwar.
