For the second time running, three students from the School of Computing and Creative Media (SCCM) of KDU have made their university and lecturers proud after they emerged victorious at the recent MSC-Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC-Malaysia APICTA) 2018.

Apart from bagging the prestigious MSC-Malaysia APiCTA awards 2018 under the Best of Tertiary Student category, the trio of Jovi Lee Jun Tatt, Glen Jonathan Muga and Nixon Teh Leik Eing also made a name for themselves with their amazing feat as this is the first time that a computing school has actually won this national-level award.

Their winning entry, EzSense, is an IoT- enabled commercial aquaponics monitoring kit using an arduino microcontroller and LoRa wireless technology and mobile application aimed at easing the monitoring work of crops and livestock for farmers while increasing production levels in a cost-effective manner. Their innovation kit will also enable farmers to monitor the water, soil and air conditions and provide automated fish feeding and plant watering.

Dubbed as the Oscars of the ICT industry, the award that showcase the latest, innovative ICT ideas and products is aimed at providing recognition to outstanding achievements of individuals, students, entrepreneurs, SMEs and organizations who have contributed to the development of the MSC Malaysia initiatives or in building applications and services for the benefit of Malaysia.

While the award also recognises creativity, innovation, and excellence in Malaysian ICT, this annual award programme also provides an opportunity and an ideal environment for individuals and companies to gain local, regional and international exposure through on-going promotional activities, and through participation at the international Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA).

By winning this prestigious award, these three young computing students from KDU will be representing Malaysia and compete in the International Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA) in Guangzhou, China, between Oct 9 and 13. All the best and do us proud by flying KDU’s flag high in China.
