Kuala Lumpur, 4 March 2014: The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA), KDU University College partnered Hilton Worldwide through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that took place at its premises recently. This initiative aimed to strengthen the alliances of both the school and industry for the benefit of its students.

SHTCA has been working very closely with various Hilton Worldwide properties in Malaysia on its internship and placement programmes. Students have completed their internships, gaining vast amounts of industry experience in hotels including Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Petaling Jaya and DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

Through this partnership, KDU University College students can look forward to more opportunities for internships with Hilton Worldwide properties in Southeast Asia.

KDU University College also looks to garner constant support and collaboration by welcoming guest speakers from the industry, organising knowledge sharing sessions, career development talks for graduating students with Hilton Worldwide and industry exposure for both academic staffs as well as students.

Professor Khong Yoon Loong, Vice Chancellor of KDU University College was pleased with this partnership. He said, “KDU University College is honoured to be linked with a world-renowned industry player, Hilton Worldwide and this will definitely help boost the employability rate of our students.

“Our students will have the opportunity to expand their network and learn from the experts of this industry. Hilton Worldwide selected a total number of 34 candidates, both graduates and internal team members across Southeast Asia to undergo themanagement trainee programme. From the 34 candidates, seven of them are from Malaysia, of which three students were from KDU University College. This shows that graduates from our institution possess the right attitude and skills for this career. We hope more students will follow in the footsteps of these bright individuals,” he added.

Also present at the MoU were KDU University College’s alumni students who are currently undergoing the management trainee programme. Manvin Gill, an alumni student at KDU University College and a management trainee at Hilton Worldwide said, “Hilton Worldwide provides an opportunity of a life time to start off your career with great experience and exposure provided,” she said.

“However, one has to have the passion and the right attitude to be offered a career at Hilton Worldwide. If you grab this opportunity with open hands and persevere, I assure you that you will have a bright future at this global hospitality organisation,” the petite girl added.

Internships are always the stepping stone for students to showcase their talents and knowledge- based skills in a working environment. Therefore, by providing students the perfect platform, especially in one of the largest hospitality companies in the world like Hilton Worldwide, they are given the best opportunity to gain exposure and experience while strengthening their portfolio.

“This school partnership underscores our global commitment to impact a million young people by 2019,” said William Costley, Vice President, Southeast Asia – Operations, Hilton Worldwide. “Through the Hilton Class program which combines our expertise as a leading industry player and the university’s strength as one of Malaysia’s top international hospitality management schools, we want to equip young aspiring talents with the range of skills needed to become the future generation of successful hospitality leaders.”
