KDU University College and AccorHotels developing new generation leaders

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 November – The global hospitality and tourism industries are dynamic and constantly evolving, and as such, is the world’s largest and fastest growing industries, offering boundless opportunities for ambitious students who enjoy working with people and in a range of exciting environments, be it locally or internationally.
KDU University College’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Art (SHTCA) and AccorHotels, today announced a partnership that will offer opportunities for SHTCA’s graduates to be trained in AccorHotels’ South East Asia properties.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between KDU University College Deputy Vice Chancellor Associates Professor Hon Wei Min, and AccorHotels Vice President of Human Resources for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, Mr Graeme Ham at Pullman Kuala Lumpur, Bangsar today.
The MoU marks a collaboration between the two parties, through AccorHotels’s New Generation Leaders (NGL) programme in the Asia Pacific region, KDU University College will spearhead this programme, to ensure that SHTCA’s graduates are given exciting opportunities to be trained in ACCOR’s South East Asia properties.
“The New Generation Leaders programme is very much in line with KDU’s mission of producing career-ready graduates who will be an asset in helping Malaysia grow as a first-world talent base,” explained Dr. Hon.

Continuing on, she elaborated, “At KDU, not only do we focus on knowledge creation and inspired learning, be it in the classroom or beyond, but also ensure that our students are grounded with a strong foundation in industry best practices. I believe that the New Generation Leaders programme will ensure our graduates will learn and benefit from the best in the market.”
“We are pleased to see that KDU graduates are keen to embrace a future as leaders in the hospitality industry,” said Mr Graeme Ham. “Based on a solid educational foundation and the practical experience of an internship, KDU graduates will be well placed to progress through the Next Generation Leaders Programme and into supervisory roles the first step for a future leader.”

“AccorHotels is a leading global hotel operator with a network of more than 3800 hotels in 92 countries, including over 650 across Asia Pacific,” he continued. “The group has a strong focus on staff training and development and with a talent shortage in the industry, we look forward to working with KDU University to identify and nurture future leaders in hospitality.”
The programme, open to SHTCA’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management graduates (majoring in Tourism Management, Events Management and Corporate Communication) and Bachelor of Culinary Management graduates (majoring in Baking & Pastry and Culinary Operations), is a combination of a 6 month internship and 12 months of the NGL programme. Graduates have to go through an assessment process, if successful they can then join the NGL programme. Based on their abilities on completion, local students will be selected for supervisory positions in any AccorHotels properties in Malaysia, whilst international students will be at properties in South East Asia. The first cohort for the programme will commence in January 2016.
