Healthy competition inspires kids to do their best – not just good enough. When students compete they will become more inquisitive, research independently, and learn to work with others. They will strive to do more than is required. These abilities prepare children for future situations of all kinds. Speech and debate students see tangible benefits from participation while in school – confidence in speaking situations, spontaneity in interviews, improved writing in other courses, diverse perspectives.

KDU Inter-school debating championship is the major highlighted event where students from all school around Malaysia will take part to participate in this debate tournament. For year 2018, KIDS BP was organized by KDU Debate Association (KDUDA) collaborate together with Student Alumni Centre (SAC) to ensure the tournament run smoothly and providing the warmest hospitality to the participants. The objective of this tournament is to cultivate of engaging in intellectual discourse and to enhance the verbal communications skills among the participants. British Parliamentary is the format which comprised of two members for each team, with four team mates against each other for every round. 

Sri KDU School, Kolej Tunku Ja’far, and Sekolah Sri Puteri and more school whom participated in this tournament. During the first day of the tournament, 60 teams involved in. Each one of them was having a nerve-wracking and heart pounding. For each team, they compulsory to go for 5 preliminary round which was adjudicated by renowned world-class debater from Malaysian Institute of Debate and Public Speaking (MIDP). MIDP were doing an amazing job to assist the participants with a useful advice and motivations on how they should improve their debating skills. After the preliminary stage, only 16 teams will be qualified to proceed onto the next quarter-final stage, subsequently narrow down to the top eight teams for semi-final and eventually the best four teams for final.

The tournament was well organized when they are having a big crowd. All supports has been given to their own teams. It was very encouraging and motivated to them. The debaters’ confidence and self-esteem raised up when their supporters starts to encourage them. Their confidence boost up when they saw their friends keep on giving moral support.
Mr Jason one of the core adjudicator thanked everyone for taking initiative to organize the debate competitions in commensurate with the KDU Debate Association (KDUDA) collaborate together with Student Alumni Centre (SAC) celebrations most successfully. The winner for the finals were awarded together with the top 10 for the best speakers awarded with certificates and trophies to them. It was a great chance to all the debaters.
