Malay Cultural Society Of Kdu Uc Wins Gold At SEC Gala Awards

Kuala Lumpur, 25 January 2014 – KDU University College’s Malay Cultural Society clinched gold in the Charity and Welfare category at the recent Student Engagement Centre (SEC) Honours Gala Night for its Charity Run project which raised funds for the Shelter Home for children.

The SEC Malaysia is an initiative undertaken by Empowering Youth Endeavour (EYE) Project. SEC mainly acts as the house of representative for all registered clubs and societies in every existing Institution of Higher Education in Malaysia.

The Malay Cultural Society featured the MCS Fun Run 2013 which attracted some 1800 individuals to clinch the gold award. The society was conferred the award as the event gathered people of all walks of life, race and religion for a benevolent cause for the Shelter Home children.

The Cheerleading Club from KDU University College also made it to the finals under the sports category while the SET Club were placed in the top ten under the Environment category.

Professor Khong Yoon Loong, Vice Chancellor of KDU University College said that he was very proud of the students and that the institution’s push towards introducing the E3 -Boosters which emphasises English Proficiency, EQ Development and Entrepreneurship, will allow for even more successes such as these. He added that, “Each of the three E3 -Boosters components is widely incorporated into the curricula of KDU University College’s academic programmes, and all its students are exposed to them.”

SEC received more than 60 submissions made by student bodies from both the private and public institutions of higher learning in a total of 6 categories encompassing the categories of sports, environment, music and culture, technology as well as business, finance and accounting aside from the charity and welfare category.

EYE Project

EYE Project is a social business platform that aims to empower youths by bridging the gap between industry needs and their own passion. We also aim in building a pipeline of highly empowered youths and matching them with relevant industries of their choice.

Student Engagement Centre (SEC)

SEC 's main objective is to build student leaders among the members of the society by enhancing their personal interest and passion. It mainly acts as the house of representative for all registered clubs and societies in every existing Institution of Higher Education in Malaysia. The organization serves as a common platform for university and college students across the region to interact and share their common interest and passion with one another. This creates a greater synergy between the wide range of students from different locations and of different tertiary education system. This puts a great deal of importance on community building through personal interests, leadership development and also in pursuing their passion.


With the E3-Boosters, KDU University College’s students won’t have to settle for just any education. They’ll graduate with a special set of skills employers say they will need.
