CERTIFICATE IN INTENSIVE ENGLISH

The Certificate in Intensive English programme was designed specifically for students who plan on furthering their studies in English. The syllabus has 8 levels of study which covers listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary development – making it ideal for anybody who would like to improve their English communication skills.
 
In the course, students will:
  • Develop their writing skills
  • Acquire active reading skills
  • Converse and express opinions to others more fluently and confidently in English

Grammar
Students learn essential grammar in order to construct sentences correctly, speak properly and understand various reading texts.
Reading
Students learn reading strategies and practise looking for main ideas and details in various text types such as stories, newspaper reports and articles. They also work on skimming, scanning and inferencing skills. In addition, students will also widen their vocabulary through vocabulary building strategies.
Writing
Students at lower levels learn to construct simple sentences and paragraphs. At higher levels, they write longer paragraphs and essays demonstrating effective word choice, grammar and sentence structures.
Listening & Speaking
Students learn and practise language needed for conversations in everyday situations.They will also learn to express their opinions and to participate more confidently in group discussions and to give both formal and informal presentations.
Computer Assisted Language
Self-access language learning through 24/7 English, which allows students to practise pronunciation, grammar, reading, listening and writing using the software at their own pace.
There are 8 levels of study. Each level of study emphasises all the essential skills:
Listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary development.

Please take note of the following before you begin :
  • Register using your name as stated in your passport.
  • Use a valid email address.
  • The test can only be done one time only.
  • Once you begin the test, you need to complete and submit it.
  • There are 3 components to the test and you must complete all 3 components.
  • There is a time limit for each component.
  • Please refrain from using a dictionary when you are doing the test.
  • Headphone is needed for the listening component.
